Valentine’s Day is upon us and it’s all things pink, hearts, flowers, and candy! Sure, all of those goodies are great, but the one thing I love the most about this special day is simply spending time with my hubby. I cherish going on dates with my husband and whether it is on Valentine’s Day or any other day, investing in our relationship with an uninterrupted meal, conversation and simply TIME with each other is always a good idea!
How do you celebrate Valentine’s Day? We generally love keeping it low-key every year and paired with the freezing temps across the Midwest, we were happy to stay close to home. Spending Valentine’s Day in Omaha with a little staycation was just what we needed.
Here are some date night ideas that hopefully give you some inspiration for what to do with your special someone on Valentine’s Day, or any old day really! So you grab your sweetheart or a friend, and head out for a memorable night out in Omaha!
But first, margaritas.
One of our favorite local restaurants and go-to for date night is Roja Mexican Grill West. You had me at tacos! We particularly love going to this area of town because we can get dinner & drinks in a number of lively environments all within walking distance of each other.
Roja serves it up Tex-Mex style. Fajitas, tacos, enchiladas, tostadas, more, all with a sizzling smack of Tex flavor. Food proportions are massive and the food is fresh. Not to mention their house margarita is one of the best I’ve ever had, and that’s saying a lot from this girl!
It was a Saturday evening and the restaurant was packed, which is a good sign of delicious food ahead. Service was prompt, friendly and attentive. We took the recommendation from our server and started with the fresh guacamole and shrimp alambres. While the guac was delicious, the shrimp alambres blew our minds. The skewered shrimp wrapped in bacon and stuffed with fresh jalapeno and monterey jack cheeses served with chipotle aioli was a burst of flavor that will bring us back for more.
Just when we thought the food couldn’t get any better, we were served our main dishes. I chose the slow-roasted chipotle pork tacos served with chili con queso. Eric went for the marinated and grilled chicken fajitas served with caramelized onions, peppers and all of the fancy cheese and guacamole toppings. Both of us couldn’t get enough of the flavor within our meals and were overly impressed with how everything was served. Our stomachs were happy and plenty full as we wrapped up our dinner preparing for the movie ahead.
Overall, the experience at Roja is one that will continue to bring us back. The lively atmosphere coupled with the amazing service and food is something you don’t see at many places. Thanks again for a great start to our night, Roja! And the amazing margaritas.
Who doesn’t love a good movie? We sure do! After dinner, we were thrilled to finally attend a movie at Alamo Drafthouse Cinema, which isn’t just your average movie theater. Add in cold beer and delicious snacks and meals; The Alamo Drafthouse Cinema is dinner, drinks, movies and events, all under one roof. Located at 12750 Westport Pkwy in La Vista, Alamo Drafthouse Cinema offers an experience that’s second-to-none. Get excited Omahians, they have a new location OPENING SOON in Midtown Crossing!
We purchased our tickets in advance, which allowed us to reserve the spots we wanted, and arrived at the theater early to enjoy a visit to Liquid Sunshine Taproom, a full sports bar connected to the theater. It was a quite convenient place to sit back and relax before the movie started. With an extensive menu of freshly prepared appetizers, salads, pizzas, wraps and sandwiches, as well as a wide selection of handcrafted cocktails, 48 craft beers, and great wines, there is definitely something for everyone!
Before the movie began, our server (who deserves 5 stars!) did a great job of explaining the concept. We liked that we were able to put in our orders for Milkshakes and Fresh Baked Cookies before the movie got started. Mmmmm. From the traditional bottomless popcorn and pop to wraps, sandwiches, and burgers, to yummy desserts and shakes, we were overwhelmed (in a good way of course!) with all of the menu options. We were impressed with how fast the drinks and food were brought out. The theater is spacious, with all moviegoers seated in 26” leather rocking chairs, and the attached tables offer a large enough space for two people to share comfortably. The menus are available once you’re seated, and there’s a tiny lamp under the table so you are able to view them in the dark. All you have to do is write down your order on a piece of paper, put it right side up in the designated stand and your server will come to grab it.
Thank you Alamo Drafthouse Cinema for an incredible experience! Not only did we get to watch a spectacular movie, but the service, food, and drinks that accompanied the movie made it that much better! We look forward to coming back to visit soon!
Overall, our short but oh so sweet Date Night in Omaha was just what we needed. With as busy as our day to day lives are, it is so great to sneak in a date night and reconnect! Anytime we can sneak in dinner, drinks, and a show, we’re a happy couple!
HAPPY VALENTINE’S DAY EVERYONE!
