Last weekend my sisters and I pulled off a major celebration, and a surprise one at that, for one of the most important people in our lives- our mom. It was a special day filled with family and friends, complete with lots of wine, good times, lots of laughs, and some seriously delicious cake.
A 60th birthday is such a milestone so we wanted to create an entire day to show her how special she is to us. In 60 years she’s accomplished amazing feats, made unbreakable friendships, and established an incredible legacy. My goal was to highlight all these wonderful qualities with a fitting birthday party!
If you’re looking for inspiration to get started on your party planning, don’t worry, I’m sharing all the details below!
Girls Birthday Brunch
Everyone knows that brunch is the best meal of the day! I hosted 12 of my moms very closest friends and family to join us for the ultimate brunch spread: a bagel bar, donuts, fresh fruit, and egg casseroles. Plus, we wanted to fuel up our guests for a full day of birthday activities! We had so much fun getting our brunch on & opening gifts.
Because the first rule of throwing a good party – is make the alcohol good and keep it flowing!
No brunch is complete without a proper MOM-OSA Bar to kick off the party (see what I did there!)
Simply start with some champs (the essence of a mimosa), then add a little juice and some fruit to your bubbly. Let’s cheers to that!
Pour the Juices
I put the juices into clear carafes. We offered both orange and strawberry-banana juices. Fresh Fruit – Again, guest can choose any fruit combinations that sound delicious to infuse with your mimosa.
Pop Fizz Clink
Open up chilled bottles of champagne and set them next to the fruit juices. Keep stored and chilled in a container.

Party planning 101: When picking out a theme for their birthday party, ask yourself what the birthday guest of honor would want. The best birthday themes are those that capture the spirit of the honoree. Are they more formal or casual? Do they prefer outdoor or indoor settings? Make sure that whatever you choose to do, it’s in line with the birthday guest’s personality!
With that in mind, what’s one of my mom’s favorite pastimes? Drinking wine, of course!
When it came to selecting the Birthday venue, it was a no brainer to have it out at Junto Winery located in Seward, NE. Limousine transportation picked up our group of ladies for a fun-filled day of wine tasting! Talk about a true VIP experience. The winery itself is cozy and charming and an ideal spot for hosting a plethora of events! Our group was led on a private tour of the winery, which was definitely one of the main events! The weather allowed us to sip and spend time out on their patio with beautiful views.
Thank you Junto Winery for hosting us ladies! We will be back soon for more of your delicious wines, you can count on that.

Once you have your party date and theme picked out, it’s time to send out the invites! I usually try to give guests as much heads up as possible, at least 3 weeks if possible. Also, make sure to include all the important information on the invites. This includes the who, what, when, where, and why of the party.
Reminder: If you’re throwing a surprise party, make sure it’s clearly stated on the invitation. This will avoid any awkward moments, down the road!
Ok, so If your mom is anything like mine, she’s probably very much looking forward to dessert. I contacted my local bakery to create a 60th Birthday cake fit for the birthday queen. I wanted something classic, simple and statement worthy, that still aligns with my floral theme.
And just FYI- I’ve never had so many compliments on a cake before (taste AND design). Thank you, Hyvee!
Who doesn’t love a sweet treat as a parting gift? I wanted to send my guest’s home with something special to cap off the amazing day. I found these adorable floral boxes HERE and filled with my favorite mini cupcakes from Cupcakes and More.
These 60th birthday party favors are sure to keep guests talking about the celebration far once the party is over!
I love a good party game! Games and activities are such a great way to include the entire group in on the fun. For more inspiration, check out my party games below.
What would a big monumental birthday party be without a little blast from the past, huh? I kidnapped my moms baby books without her knowledge and choose 10 photos of her throughout her lifetime to share at the party. The photos were used for a Guess the Birthday Girls Age game which we played at the winery. It was special to take a moment to look at each picture and reminisce about how they remembered my mom way back when. It was really fun for everyone involved, especially her!

So next time you have a loved one that has a special occasion coming up, don’t shy away from being the one to give them the party of a lifetime! After all, it’s all worth it.
Happy 60th Birthday Mom! May you always savor the warmth of good wine, good friends, and good memories!
