Who really likes to be cold? Anyone that knows me, can agree that I’m very vocal about my dislike for the cold, mainly due to the fact that I’m ALWAYS cold. I married a guy that’s ALWAYS warm, so you can imagine our constant battle with the thermostat. I must admit, when the chance to try Cryotherapy came about, I was excited, but a little more nervous. I didn’t fully understand what I was getting myself into but was very much looking forward to the experience!
Chances are you’ve probably heard about cryotherapy by now, but what is it really? Does it help? What are the benefits? Is it worth it? Eric and I recently visited West Omaha Cryotherapy and experienced our first session and I’m here to share all about our visit and how it benefited us!
Cryotherapy has become increasingly popular with people from all parts of the world. You’ve probably noticed celebrities and well-known athletes are also using Cryotherapy to improve their performance and exercise recovery. There are so many additional benefits to cryotherapy and that’s why it’s becoming more and more popular with the mass public.
So how does it work exactly? The whole process and science behind it are amazing. Whole-Body Cryotherapy uses a Cryo-Sauna to expose the exterior layer of skin to sub-zero blasts of air. While standing within the enclosed chamber, temperatures drop between negative 200-250 degrees! Much the same way an ice pack works to reduce inflammation, the super cool air helps to shrink the blood vessels. For hundreds of years, cold therapy has been used to reduce pain and inflammation.
The body supercharges the blood with anti-inflammatory proteins, endorphins, and oxygen that provides a euphoric feeling and a multitude of benefits. Some of the benefits include accelerated muscle recovery and reduced inflammation, pain, and spasms. It also boosts your metabolism (which I personally love!) and gives an accelerated production of collagen. It improves skin elasticity and texture, reduces the appearance of cellulite, just to name a few. All with just a single 3-minute session!
From the moment you enter West Omaha Cryotherapy, the entire experience was far from intimidating. You’re greeted by one of their cryotherapy experts, who explains and goes into detail with the entire process. Once we had our blood pressure checked, it was time to change into our Cryo-Attire! Our dressing room was equipped with gloves, socks, and slippers. After you finish with changing into the necessary attire, you get to slip into one of their plush robes and you are ready to go!
Eric has been a lifelong athlete, has had major surgery due to injury, lives an active lifestyle, and pretty much is always in pain. We’ve tried numerous deep tissue massages and chiropractic visits all the way to float tank therapy to help relieve some of his chronic pain and inflammation and nothing has seemed to work. After his session, he was impressed, not only that he finished three minutes at an extreme temperature, but also, that in that truly minimal amount of time, he could almost immediately feel a difference in his body. Eric’s sore muscles felt refreshed and his achy body rejuvenated.
Emerging myself in a – 200-degree pod for 3 minutes was oddly enjoyable and satisfying. It was truly a unique and indescribable experience! The cool air starts getting circulating in the pod and immediately turns into an icy vapor and, oh my, it’s colder than I even thought possible. Imagine standing on top of Mt. Everest naked and then multiply that by 10. Okay, maybe I’m exaggerating, but your session is over before it becomes uncomfortable.
As for me, I’ve got a mind that never shuts off. I generally have trouble sleeping and tend to be consistently stressed with my busy and active lifestyle filled with a full-time job, family, and friends and also running blog at the same time. I came out with the feeling of being energized, but at the same time, calm. I can definitely notice an increase in energy! After a session, I feel awake, like I just had an awesome cup of coffee. Pretty sweet bonus!
We loved our first experience with Cryotherapy at West Omaha Cryotherapy here in Omaha and highly recommend to others who are up for the challenge and the number of benefits that come with it! A huge thank you to the West Omaha Cryotherapy team for inviting us to try it out and tour your facility. We will be back for another session, that’s for sure! Once I warm up, that is…
