| You are my adventure and my home all at once |
Well the time has come, Baby #2 will be with us in a few short weeks, and his nursery is finally done!
Like our 1st son’s nursery, this room means so much to us and we’re so excited to see him grow up in it. I wanted his space to not only be cozy and neutral, but super functional as well and something he could really grow into. We kept the color palette neutral with pops of tans, whites, navy and grey tones. I mixed various textures as well, with wicker, metal, wood, etc.
I get asked all the time “where do you start?!” when designing. It all starts with a theme! For me, I pick one element that I absolutely love and fill in from there. It could be anything. Eric and I share a love for traveling. We’ve been blessed to be able to see the world together and look forward to a day (post COVID) to see the world through our boy’s eyes. My grandma passed down to us a giant vintage World Map poster awhile back and I really wanted to incorporate that into the nursery. I thought above the Crib would be the perfect statement piece to plan everything around.
I always build an inspiration board and go from there. When building inspiration, I love to source my favorite bloggers and Instagram pages, as well as Pinterest for ideas. Once my travel theme was set, we started designing the nursery with the big pieces (crib & rocker), and then finding the filler items (plants, bookshelf, decorations).
As I’m sure a lot of parents do when they’re getting ready for Baby #2, we were lucky to be able to reuse a lot of our son’s big furniture nursery items (La-Z-boy, crib, changing station). This helped SO much with costs, and it matched perfectly with our neutral theme.
One of the projects I tackled first was creating a gallery wall above the dresser. Instead of doing the traditional frame galleries you see everywhere, I wanted to do something more unique and outside the box. I found these black grids on Amazon that would be perfect for his room. I found the travel prints and banners on Etsy. The rest was filled in to fit our theme. Talk about heart bursting! I’m really proud of how it turned out.
The bookshelf was one of the last pieces we purchased. I had so much fun opening all these books for him from our drive by diaper dash and reading the sweet messages from friends and family. We can’t wait for more story time with our 2nd son.
It’s the little details that make the room so special!
It’s so exciting to have a vision for a room and then see it all come together. I’m going over all of the little details and how it turned out. All of my adventure dreams came to life and Baby B’s nursery is officially ready for his arrival.
We’re SO excited to become a family of 4!!
